Who Can Dethrone the Patriots?

At the start of last season, The New England Patriots were far from a Super Bowl LIII favorite. There was talk of Tom Brady being too old, a staggering lack of wide receiver talent, and an aging defense. Experts and casual fans alike, were quick to dismiss the Patriots and claim their dynasty run was over.

How wrong they were. The New England Patriots went on to finish the regular season at 11-4 and marched their way into an 8th straight AFC Championship Game. We all know what happened next: a thrilling win against the Chiefs in Kansas City and another Super Bowl title, with a win over the Los Angeles Rams.

It is safe to say The New England Patriots are the team of the decade, after becoming 6-Time Super Bowl Champions. That number, by the way, ties the 6-Time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins all time. However, can they keep it going? Tom Brady isn’t getting any younger, but he continues to put up numbers and find ways to win.

Let’s take a look at a few teams who can knock the Patriots off their pedestal:

The Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. A wealth of talent including NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Damian Williams, and newly added LeSean McCoy, make the Chiefs a force to be reckoned with. The defense is a bit of a question mark, but opponents will find quite a tall task trying to outscore Mahomes and this loaded offense. There is no reason to think the Chiefs will cool off any time soon. Look for the Chiefs to make a second straight AFC Championship Game.

The Dallas Cowboys

Can the 5-Time Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys make it 6? Ezekiel Elliott ending his holdout makes the Cowboys a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Behind one of the league’s best offensive lines, Dak Prescott has shown the ability to lead the Cowboys offense and Elliott gives them balance with an exceptional run game. Amari Cooper turned out to be a great addition last year and continues to shine as a receiver. Don’t sleep on the Cowboys defense either. Leighton Vander Esch and DeMarcus Lawrence continue to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks on a weekly basis. On the NFC side, look for the Cowboys to continue playing football into late January and quite possibly, early February.

The Green Bay Packers

How many times have we seemed to write off the Packers, just to watch them continue to win? Aaron Rodgers is the real deal. Aside from Tom Brady, Rodgers is the one guy you don’t want to have the ball when your team is up by less than a touchdown, at the end of the game. Rodgers ability to finish a game keeps the Packers on the elite level of Super Bowl contenders. The 4-Time Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers returnees include Devante Adams and Aaron Jones. Will Rodgers’ supporting cast be enough to topple the mighty Patriots machine?
